About this site.
This is my personal log. When I conceived the idea for logging my thoughts online, it was
not a popular notion. My inspiration came from reading John
Carmack's .plan files which he would post as he made progress on software releases or
discovered some interesting tidbit.
I also enjoyed seeing what many of my übergeek friends and colleagues had assembled for their personal websites. The idea was intriguing, and I challenged myself to get started building a sort of digital workbench. That was 1996. It's now 2007, and I don't have thousands of articles online; I'm not a well-known blogosphere pioneer. I'm just a guy who really enjoys software development and technology, to whom this particular exercise serves pragmatically to develop my skills as a designer and programmer. So, this site is my version of a "digital workbench," or what you will. The content doesn't have any singular theme, but it usually revolves around topics that I enjoy, including technology, current events, literature, philosophy, and religion. I'll occasionally throw some personal stuff in, expecting that my friends and not strangers will probably make up the majority of visitors to the site. For several noteworthy reasons, I also like to maintain a small portfolio of my work. Mainly, it offers a chance to reflect on my progress as a programmer and designer. I enjoy several avenues of creativity, and after many years of designing software, I've learned that not every project will be your favorite. Besides that, a workshop is a necessary advantage to the rapacious inventor. By the way, "malusdomestica" is the taxonomic classification of the domestic apple. It's the same lingo that uses "homo sapiens" for modern man, or "canis domesticus" as man's best friend. Someone once remarked that malusdomestica means "evil" (malus) "home" (domestica). Well, I certainly hope it doesn't mean that. I like "apple" better, but that web address is already registered (grin). Update: I have finally gotten around to dusting off some of the old content. I saw a graph of my web traffic a while back, and I've apparently made a lot of new friends. Welcome! Colophon.
